When the iPad 3 reaches its release date in 2012 it'll trump anything relating to this year's iPhone 4S launch, if Steve Jobs' vision for the future of computing holds true. Jobs stated that he felt the tablet was the future of computing, and that the iPad would eventually replace Macs and PCs for most users, with only power users and specialists still relying on a traditional computer of any kind. He also admitted that he and Apple had been working on the iPad going back to long before the iPhone was launched, but ultimately decided to shift focus to smartphones because they saw the market was heading there anyway. Once the iPhone was off and running, Jobs returned from medical leave to spend his remaining lifespan ensuring that the iPad got out the door, which finally happened in early 2010. After a respectable yet non-revolutionary step forward with the iPad 2, Apple now has the chance to make the first fundamental changes to the iPad since its launch when the iPad 3 arrives next year.
